Suggest Some Riffs

I’ve got a list of songs that I’m going to do, but they are all songs that I like, so if you want to hear something else, or challenge me, or even just to see if something will work on ukulele, please post a comment!!

Find Your Own Voice – Acoustic

This song by Stratovarius is way too fast for me to play in its reality, so I’ve done a very quick acoustic version of the intro.  A couple of stretches in here!

Doesn’t sound too bad. Sorry about the bad recording quality though!

Rock You Like A Hurricane – Intro

Considering that my site is named after this song, I was having trouble getting it to sound right because of all the 5th chords, but finally here it is!

It’s pretty simple apart from the G5 if you aren’t used to it!

I’ve played the lead part really quietly in the background too, just to show how it fits, but without an extra octave, it’s a bit lame.

Hopefully the chords will help someone though!

Rose Tattoo – Intro

This is from the latest Dropkick Murphy’s album, absolutely fantastic song!

I’ve done it in key with the track too, But I haven’t played the trill on the C.

Plug In Baby – Acoustic

So, after my failure at doing Hysteria, and how much I liked the Hellion being done acoustic, I thought I’d have another go at a muse track!

I started it with distortion, but it sounds way nicer like this! The plucked chords are above the tab too. I should really have played it higher up the neck to make it less tricky to move to notes.

Deadly Sinners – Intro

I love this song, I’ve recorded about 4 or 5 separate parts of the track, but some work better than others, I’m looking to do a full acoustic version one day, its pretty cool acoustically.

I’ve done it in E, but its actually in A, just made it a bit easier to play on the ukulele.

The Hellion – Acoustic

This was another suggestion from twitter, I was hoping for the distorted multi-track madness that it could have been, but it just sounded like a mess, but while practising, it worked nicely like this, and its about time there was something more acoustic on here.  

According to all the tabs, there are only 2 guitar parts too!

How to play “State of Massachusetts” on ukulele – Full song & tab

I’ve been getting loads of hits from Google about this track, so I figured its time to show how to play the whole song.

I don’t have audio or video for it yet, but I thought I’d put up the tab I wrote:

American Jesus – Intro / Outro

Bad Religion released a new album today, and the inauguration of Obama too, so kinda fits nicely. Great song, better on the live album “Tested”

I’ve tagged the end of the live version on the end of this intro, to play the intro normally just ignore the run down. I think its also one fret higher than the recording.

Gay Bar – Intro

Well, its pretty simple, but everyone, everywhere knows this song! I haven’t played it in the right key, but it works better like this.

Hysteria – Intro

This was more of a challenge suggestion than anything else!  I’m afraid that I think I failed, but here you go.  I stuck an octaver on the bass part to try and get it a bit fuller, although you can’t really hear it on laptop speakers anyway! I also had to tune the C string down to B to help with the intro, and move the whole thing 5 semitones down.

Sorry Metz! – Although I’ll try a different Muse track one day!

Rainbow in the Dark – Intro

This track by Dio has simultaneously the most cheesy and awesome synth intro.  Its a great song too though!  Managed to get this one in the right key pretty easily and its a pretty easy riff too once you get the timing right!

The riff behind it is pretty cool too, although I’ve changed it slightly from the original as it was overlapping the synth riff a bit.

Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja – Intro

Maybe controversial at the moment, but forgetting all that, this song still kicks ass!  Not sure I like where the band went after this album, but this one is great!

Its in key (as the song is in drop C) but I’ve used a lot of poetic license disregarding octaves and chords to just leave it as a cool riff.

Don’t Stop Believin’ – Intro

Journeyyyyyyy…

I did this version with 2 tracks, one doing the bass riff and one doing the backing riff.  I’ve worked out a single uke version too, but its pretty tough so I’m still practising it!  It will be done soon though!

There is no Tab for this song as I’ll put the single ukulele one up when I do it.

Räyh! – Intro

Hevisaurus are a Finnish childrens metal band who all dress like dinosaurs.  They sing in Finnish about themes that children can relate to, but over good quality rock and metal songs instead of lame nursery rhymes.

This is the intro of their opening song of their latest album: Räyh!!

Fear of the Dark – Intro

No selection of Metal tracks would be complete without some Maiden, and I intend on doing more. I’ve got plans to do a full length ukulele version of this track too, but its just taking a while to arrange, there are just so many options with picking and lead!

Dammit – Intro

This is the intro of the song Dammit by Blink 182. A really simple riff, but instantly recognisable, something that Blink are really good at doing with their songs.

Its probably 2 octaves higher than the original but still sounds pretty decent

Metal Crüe – Intro

Sabaton are one of my favorite bands, this is the song that got me into them.  Its just a quick intro riff for the lead guitar, not too many notes, but pretty cool!

The Kids Aren’t Alright – Intro

This is the intro of the song The Kids Aren’t Alright by The Offspring.

I had to change the second half of the riff, playing it an octave higher as there aren’t enough notes to go down to.  The first note sounds a bit weird, but it is right. I’ve used Bbm, F#, C#, G# as the chords underneath too.

State of Massachusetts – Intro

This is the intro of the song The State of Massachusetts by Dropkick Murphys.

I had to change part of the riff, playing a few notes an octave higher as there aren’t enough notes to go down to.  You could play the whole thing 3 semitones higher, but it wouldn’t be in key to play along to the track.

Trollhammaren – Intro

This is the riff from the intro of Trollhammaren by Finntroll, its a pretty awesome song if you haven’t heard it!  The intro is in 2 parts, the second riff is also the chorus of the song.

I’ve transposed it down to make it easier to play though, if you want to play in the original key, play 7 frets higher.

Over The Hills And Far Away – Riff

This is the intro and middle riffs, as per the Nightwish version of this song, the track is originally by Gary Moore though.

The 2 riffs are pretty cool and they can be played easily in the right key for the song too!
